Rajasthan atomic power plant unit goes critical

Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) commissioned the 220 MW, Unit 5 of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project at Rawatbhata in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan. With the commissioning of the unit, the nuclear installed capacity increased to 960 MW. The plant is fuelled by imported uranium and the power generated will be shared by the states in the northern electricity region.

Unit 6, with a capacity of 220 MW, also achieved its first criticality on Jan 23 and is currently undergoing statutory tests to prepare for the first synchronization and commencement of commercial operations.
